    7:00 pm Presentation

    Visitors and guests welcome.

    Speaker: Casio Silva

Growing up on an island in Brazil, fishing has always been part of Cassio's life. His father, an avid diver and spear fisherman, sparked a passion for the water and chasing fish. While his mom passed down her love for traveling and passion for new experiences. After picking up a fly rod, these passions grew and have taken him on many adventures. From salmon fishing in British Columbia, chasing trout from Texas to Montana, and pursuing saltwater species on the Texas Coast, Central America and beyond.

Cassio and his wife, Alyssa, spend many days a year traveling and exploring new places, but they call San Antonio, Texas home. Prior to his career as a guide and teaching others about fly fishing, Cassio spent nearly a decade in the classroom as a high school Social Studies teacher and basketball coach. Guiding allows him to combine two devotions, fishing and teaching. With this background, he works with both novice and experienced anglers of all ages, teaching new skills, sharing his knowledge, catching fish and making memories!

    Details

The Johnson City Lake is formed by a dam on the Pedernales River. We will access the lake thru the LCRA Pedernales River Nature Park. The park is on the south side of the lake. When you enter the park you will see signs and a drop box where you can pay your entry fee. The park is small. The road comes to a Y, take the road to the left and towards the water. You will see the only two buildings in the park, a covered picnic area and bathrooms. We will gather in this area. There is a floating dock where you can access the lake on a kayak. It is a short distance from the gathering area.

We will plan on having a hot dog and chips lunch at noon. Donations will be accepted. There will be a drawing for gifts. Outing details will be available at the May 16th meeting.

    Recommended Gear

    1) A kayak or other water craft and a personal safety flotation device.

    2) Fly rods, your choice.

    3) Flies, the target fish in the lake will be bass, sunfish and perch.

    4) Bring water.

    5) Rain gear: Check the forecast. We will be there unless conditions become unsafe.

    Note

I frequently see people fishing this lake but they are almost always fishing from the shore. There are only two places on this lake to get on the water in a kayak, one of them is the small floating dock in the park. A few years ago I took a friend who had never fly fished before out on kayak on this lake. He caught a fish on his first cast here. I thought that was amazing.
